Unfortunately I have reached my limit of availble space. I have moved my method of communication with parents over to facebook. It is a private closed group, so there can't be any lurking. You are more than welcome to browse through old entries and posts here though if you are interested in learning more about my classroom. Thanks!Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08839483233856650516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35813015.post-82369727070076919952012-05-23T22:43:00.002-05:002012-05-23T22:43:54.180-05:00Cheese Video

We are practicing taking notes, putting them into our own words, and how to use encyclopedias online and off. Today students practiced creating timelines, which is a skill they learned at the beginning of the year. I am excited to see the children learning so much about famous historical people such as Abraham Lincoln, Ruby Bridges, George Washington Carver and Ryan White. Other students are researching George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., Juliette Gordon Lowe, Duke Ellington, and many more. We will be finishing up our unit of study on biographies next Friday.Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08839483233856650516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35813015.post-75089858966574658572012-02-23T12:20:00.000-05:002012-03-02T12:22:00.371-05:00<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; This unit in writing was designed to introduce the students to how the workshop works. They were encouraged to write about anything they chose. I was pleased to hear personal stories, informational books, poetry, mysteries, and more. We listened to everyone share who was willing, and afterward enjoyed popcorn and water as a snack. Look for their writing to come home in the next week. In our next unit we will be focusing on All About books.Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08839483233856650516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35813015.post-36401318007793068222011-08-31T17:17:00.002-05:002011-09-12T17:18:47.964-05:00InstrumentsStudents use the international instruments to create their own rhythm and beat during Choice Time.Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08839483233856650516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35813015.post-5738898065090817782011-08-26T20:33:00.000-05:002011-08-29T20:36:58.796-05:00New Manipulatives

This occurs from the time they enter the classroom, until about 8 am. Choice Time is the time when students are free to explore, play, and create whatever they want in the classroom. Some of the more popular activities during this time include:

In math this week, students are completing surveys and asking each other questions. This allows them to practice both math skills like graphing, as well as providing a way to get to know their new classmates.Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08839483233856650516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35813015.post-82290565916435174272011-08-18T20:10:00.001-05:002011-08-29T20:13:59.393-05:00I am good at...
Today the students wrote pieces about what they are good at. This is always a great activity for the children to get to know each other, as well as for me to understand them a little better.Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08839483233856650516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35813015.post-48804761883725303582011-08-17T20:00:00.000-05:002011-08-29T20:10:07.466-05:00Classroom PaintingsOn the first day of school, students worked together to create a painting that will be hung in our classroom. The students were divided into 4 groups, and each group given a blank canvas and paint. Some groups worked together developing a plan before beginning to paint, others dove right in with each child painting something important to him or herself. I hope you can visit our classroom to see the final four art pieces. They are truly beautiful and a part of our clssroom family.Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08839483233856650516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35813015.post-39012677916661841752011-08-09T18:08:00.002-05:002011-08-09T18:10:12.785-05:00Important Dates

To get our year off to a great start we have our, “Meet Me on a Monday” on August 15th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Our “Meet Me on Monday,” will give you and your child an opportunity to meet your teacher, visit the classroom, tour the building, find out about your child’s ISTEP scores, order spirit wear and explore the opportunities for volunteering your time, resources and/or talents with our Parent Faculty Organization. We need you as a volunteer to help in our classrooms and work with individual students.
